SOLDIERS from the Scarborough area are helping to protect vital supply convoys which travel to the front lines in Afghanistan.

Troops from 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) are serving with the Combat Logistic Patrol (CLP) which provides an armed escort for convoys of trucks.

The commander of 5 Platoon Force Protection, 2nd Lt Colin Lunn, said: “The convoys can be up to 90 vehicles. There was a big operation into Musa Qala, getting materials up there, so they can build a forward operating base there.”

He added some of his vehicles had been attacked in Musa Qala but the incident had been minor and involved small arms fire. He said: “On one patrol we had indirect fire, we were mortared, and then there was an ambush.”

Troops from the Scarborough area working with the CLP include Pte Dean Campbell, Pte Shane Gladstone, Pte Tom Pashby, Lce Cpl Shane Pavlovic, Pte Matty Turner and Pte Darryl Lamb.
