The Afghan Diaries: Day Eight

Friday December 21

I finally managed to get the news back

MORNING BRIEFING… Troops at Camp Tombstone, in Helmand province in Afghanistan, get their instructions at the start of the day…

Today I actually managed to get some stories back to the UK.

I had been struggling with technology all week because the laptop I had brought with me locked me out – I hadn’t realised the keys were sticking and three incorrect passwords and you are out.

So I had to beg, borrow or steal, computer access wherever I could.

It was a good feeling to send the stories and pictures back because I suppose I was in panic mode wondering how the lack of articles was being received in the newsroom.

These will probably be the last I send for a while because I will be spending the next few days at a remote base.

A trip to Musa Qala is looking unlikely at the moment despite numerous calls to the powers that be.

But I am booked onto a Black Hawk flight tomorrow which I am quite looking forward to.
