I have been looking for a long term photo project for a while now and I think I have found one.

I was watching a documentary about the Highland sport of Shinty last week and felt it would make a good subject to follow over the coming season.

The programme – which is called Giving It Stick and can be viewed on the BBC iPlayer – mainly followed the rivallry of Kingussie and Newtonmore which are both to the south of Inverness.

However, another club was featured called Lovat which is nearer to the Highland capital – just a few miles to the west in the village of Kiltarlity.

I had previously written a few articles with local musician Graham Bell and I remembered he had connections with the club and regularly shared action shots on his Facebook page. I asked if it would be possible and, following a meeting yesterday with the club president, they were quite keen on me doing the project.

The season is due to start in March and, rather than just concentrating on what happens on the pitch, I am hoping to build up a bigger picture of the club itself. So we shall see how this unfolds eh?
