Yesterday I was covering Chinese New Year in Inverness city centre which rounded off a whole weekend of celebrations to mark the occasion.

My colleague, business reporter Rachel Smart, was writing the article and I was taking the photos because we did not have photographic cover on that evening.

A large crowd had gathered to watch the spectacle and the organisers did not disappoint with their traditional lion dance.

I followed the progress from the bottom of Market Brae Steps, in the High Street, up to the town house and it was good to see how local residents welcomed the traditions of the Chinese community.

Although I shot a few hundred photos on the night but I just love the pure joy of the kids after meeting one of the lion dancers.

I have to admit I was struggling with the low light and this shot was taken on my phone, but I guess that is how it goes sometimes, and I do like how this photo turned out.

Having said that also I got a few decent shots from my cameras and this gallery shows a few of those results.
