There was a show of solidarity for the people of Gaza today (October 14) in Carlisle’s City Centre.

Carlisle’s Palestine Solidarity Group met in the town centre at 1pm for a silent vigil.

And attendees were reminded that banners were brought to be ‘are in line with calls for peace’, across both nations.

There was a good turn out, although there were a lot more in London as pictures would indicate, but at least there was a lot of support for the citizens in Gaza.

Speaking before the event organiser, Fiona Goldie said: “We are so very frightened for the people of Gaza. We fear death on a scale that has been hitherto unimaginable.

“Our event is intended as a space for people who hope for a peaceful solution to come together in solidarity with those in Gaza, who have already suffered enough. We desire de-escalation, negotiation, adherence to international law.”

Obviously everyone was horrified by last weekend’s attacks, by Hamas against Isreal, but it was good to see the support for the people of Gaza who are in no way responsible for the initial attacks.

As I recall there was a similar groundswell of support for the people of Ukraine following the Russian invasion last year.
