Today I got an early morning call from the leader of Cumberland Council to say that Wes Streeting, the Health and Social Care Secretary, was due to visit a Carlisle care home as he announced a major shake up of adult social care in the next three years.

Needless to say it made for some decent pics but I do like this shot as this particular lady was such a character and she actually grabbed his hand which is why I like this shot.

Let’s just say the visit was completely controlled by his comms team as the interview was a pool contribution from Border TV and not the usual head to head interviews.

But I have to admit you cannot pre-plan for how actual members of the public will respond to a well meaning politician who poses for a photo opportunity.

Having said that my resulting article will appear on tomorrow’s page seven in the News & Star but it might also be picked up by anyone else who is a partner of the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
