Today marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and yesterday the occasion was marked by the Ukrainian community in Carlisle with a special service at Carlisle Cathedral before marching towards Carlisle Castle.
Let’s just say the weather was less than ideal and I am fairly sure my camera kit survived the blustery downpour. I did get an article published today on the News & Star website and hopefully it will appear in the paper later this week.
I did like the shot above where a woman raises three fingers to mark the three years and everyone involved in the march was so accommodating as I pointed my camera lenses at them. It was also good to catch up with friends who were also covering the event.

Having said that I was reminded of my time at the Inverness Courier when I was tasked with covering with writing about any Ukraine related articles. During that time I did make contact with people who were from the area and out there in Ukraine and I also made friends with a surgeon who volunteered in the war zone to help the victims.
If you scroll back through my posts you can also see reference to my earlier posts from my first visit to Ukraine with the Shoebox Appeal in January 2008 including the diaries. So here are a few of my articles from my time in Inverness:
