Last weekend I actually got back to my former stomping ground of Scarborough and there was a long overdue catch up with former colleagues and contacts during my time there. For the record the last time I visited was 2017 for Sci-Fi Scarborough of that year.
I was not intending to head back to Scarborough for the convention but when organisers announced that a last minute addition of Christopher Ryan, who had appeared in Doctor Who, so I decided my revisit was long overdue. Basically this was simply because Chris was also Mike the Cool Guy in the Young Ones, as well as Dave Hedgehog in Bottom, which were both formative in influencing my sense of humour during the early 1980s and the 1990s.
I did tell him that he was responsible for sending me down that dark comedy route and I am fairly sure he took it as a compliment. I have to admit I found him a great guy who was very generous with his time and cooperated for my camera and I was so pleased to have met him as he was genuinely a lovely guy.
I have to admit that I did find the Daleks’ interactions at the event with the visitors were quite funny and everyone played up to my camera especially the cosplayers who were Deadpool and Spiderman.
When I was a lot younger my first introduction to Doctor Who was Jon Pertwee, as the Third Doctor, so it made sense to get lookalike Scott Goodman from Leicester reading a Doctor Who magazine to pose for a pic. I was quite impressed that he was happy to participate but I am not surprised.
