Bizarrely I got message from my mate Neil, who works for Northern Rail, and he suggested that we should take a train trip to Settle via Ribblehead and hats off to him for sorting the tickets.

I have to admit it was impressive to see the feat of engineering that is the Ribblehead Viaduct. Let’s just say it was a decent rail pub crawl and it was good to see the iconic rail line’s dark red and cream colour scheme.

Needless to say this was one of the places I had wanted to visit and it was good see it. Having said that I did get quite sunburned. The scenery is beautiful and it was good to see the transformation between the rugged countryside of Cumbria and the more relaxed views of the Yorkshire Dales.

Needless to say Ribblehead was rammed with tourists but we did enjoy a pleasant stroll around Settle. One of my guilty pleasures is watching former MP Michael Portillo’s train journey shows and it was thanks to him that he saved the line when he was transport minister in the late 1980s. I would totally recommend taking the trip as the views are well worth it.
