As well as doing a series of portraits of the brewery’s head brewer I started the project with a few general views and detail shots around the site last week. For the record I did get permission to get the above shot of the guy enjoying a pint in the tap room. I just liked the way the light shone through the drink.
It is an interesting building and part of Cockermouth’s history but it is good to see that the brand has been revived.
On my second visit last week I did get a tour of the old brewing equipment which is no longer used as they have brand new kit.
Apparently in May 2005 it was bought by the national brewer Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries which was renamed Marston’s plc in 2007 and it ended up being used as a distribution centre before its eventual closure in September 2022 after it merged its brewing business with Carlsberg UK.
Hopefully they are planning to launch tours of the brewery later this month so hopefully I will get some shots of visitors when I next visit. As I said previously I reckon I am hoping to document various aspects of the head brewer’s job as well as other members of staff in the coming months.
